Alison Sauer
Alison Sauer brings a rich and diverse background to her counseling practice, having previously worked as a teacher, small business owner, fitness professional, and baker. While her career path has been varied, a common thread of helping and connecting with others has remained constant. Inspired by her own personal journey with therapy, Alison found her true calling in counseling, where she now dedicates herself to helping others navigate their own challenges.
Currently pursuing her master’s degree at Xavier University, Alison is committed to a client-centered approach that emphasizes empathy, partnership, and collaboration. She specializes in working with both couples and individuals, using a range of therapeutic techniques tailored to meet her clients’ unique needs. Alison believes that change begins with recognizing and addressing the pain or disconnection that brings people to therapy. She draws from solution-focused methods, mindfulness practices, and emotion-based perspectives, all while promoting healthy attachments.
Alison’s counseling style is characterized by her focus on building a strong therapeutic alliance, where clients feel supported, safe, and empowered to explore their challenges and take action toward the lives and relationships they desire. She values the collaborative process and is dedicated to working with motivated clients who are willing to put in the effort both in and out of sessions to achieve real change.
In her professional experience, Alison finds fulfillment in witnessing clients who take their healing seriously and make tangible progress in their lives. She believes in the power of patience, creating a calm and safe emotional space, and providing unconditional positive regard and validation. Alison employs a variety of therapeutic strategies, including mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), talk therapy, reality therapy, and solution-focused approaches.
Alison stays informed about the latest trends and developments in the field through her studies, as well as through resources like Psychology Today, ACA publications, and her involvement in Chi Sigma Iota. As a member of the American Counseling Association and Chi Sigma Iota, she is actively engaged in her ongoing professional development.
Whether in person or through telehealth, Alison is committed to providing a secure and supportive setting where clients can focus on their well-being. Her goal is to help clients harness their unique strengths, cultivate self-compassion, and make meaningful strides toward the life they want to lead.
