McKenna Maloney
Driven by a profound commitment to fostering self-care and personal growth, McKenna has embarked on a journey into the field of counseling as an intern with Self Care Counseling. Hailing from Columbus, OH, McKenna’s passion for mental health intervention was sparked during her undergraduate years at Miami University, where she earned a BA in psychology with a minor in social justice and inequalities.
Motivated by a combination of frustration and curiosity, McKenna witnessed the transformative potential of counseling and recognized the need for individuals to feel empowered and supported through life’s challenges. Currently, she is pursuing a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Cincinnati, solidifying her dedication to acquiring the skills necessary to make a positive impact on the well-being of others.
McKenna’s counseling philosophy centers around the belief that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. She sees counseling as an opportunity to create a personalized space for empowerment and support, guiding individuals through difficult conversations, assessing concerns, and collaboratively developing a plan for forward progress. Embracing the principle of being “comfortable with being uncomfortable,” McKenna understands the power of discomfort as a catalyst for meaningful change.
In her counseling approach, McKenna seamlessly integrates person-centered, solution-focused, and strengths-based modalities. She prioritizes building warm and egalitarian relationships with clients, recognizing and respecting the diverse needs each individual brings to the therapeutic process. Understanding that personal growth is a non-linear journey, McKenna works collaboratively with clients, implementing ongoing strategies and adaptations to support them in reaching their desired outcomes.
As an intern with Self Care Counseling, McKenna is dedicated to contributing to the mission of empowering individuals to navigate their unique paths of personal development with resilience and confidence. Her presence reflects a commitment to fostering a supportive and transformative environment, embodying the values of self-care and well-being.
